August 12th we partnered with Wayside Chapel in providing a Back-to-School Breakfast for all staff at the school. It was wonderful to see new and known faces, get and give hugs, and pray for the staff at the end of the breakfast. One teacher aide started helping on campus August 6th and others continue to join the ranks. We have four grade level teacher aides running copies, helping with organizing, doing bulletin boards and laminating needs for all grade levels. Three library aides will be reshelving books on a weekly basis. One classroom teacher aide is getting ready to begin helping individual students in second grade. More are needed to help in individual classrooms for students who have fallen behind with the Covid interruption. We were hoping to begin Kids Club on October 5 on campus but do not have the needed fifteen volunteers at this time. Our next opportunity to start Kids Club will be January 2022. There will be some changes to our program and additional fees for cleaning but that’s the “new normal” in our world of Covid. If you are available on Tuesday afternoons, please contact Joyce Velasquez ASAP about joining the Kids Club Team. The students need Kids Club so much—spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Please ask God if this might be where He would want you to serve in 2022. Our team needs to be set by November 1 for all other district requirements to be in place for a January return. Please pray for the additional six team members needed—one or two members are needed to speak Spanish for our Spanish speaking parents.
In the meantime, please pray for:
• health and safety for all teachers, custodians, cafeteria workers, administrators, other essential staff, volunteers, students, and families this year at Colonial Hills and all schools
• our Kids Club and Teen Time meetings at the nearby apartments
• Kids Club to return to Colonial Hills as an after-school program in January
• finances to cover 48 boxes of food we plan to give out in November ($1680 needed)
• new avenues of ministry with a church plant in south San Antonio
• partnering with Pastor Stas in Maximovca, Moldova in the fall with Kids Camp
